Intendis and Valeant sign distribution agreement for Finacea®, a new treatment in the UK for rosacea

Intendis GmbH and Valeant Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Basingstoke, have signed a distribution agreement for the sale of a range of Intendis products in the United Kingdom. This includes Finacea®, a new topical treatment for the treatment of rosacea, which will be launched to medical professionals this week.

The agreement came into effect on September 1, 2006 and is part of the strategy to further expand the presence of Intendis in those markets where the company does not have its own subsidiaries. "This agreement with Valeant offers us good opportunities for growth in one of the world's largest dermatology markets", emphasised Professor Wolfgang Kehr, CEO of Intendis GmbH. Valeant will serve the market with a dedicated specialist dermatology sales and marketing organisation. "We are delighted to now be better able to offer our products to doctors and patients in the UK. With Valeant, we have found a competent partner with excellent knowledge of this market", said Kehr.
Colin Terry, Managing Director of Valeant Pharmaceuticals UK, is delighted with the agreement. “Valeant already has a strong dermatology portfolio in the UK with Dermatix® - a market leader in scar prevention and Efudix® – a leading brand for actinic keratoses , explains Colin. “This agreement expands our product portfolio and offer clinicians a range of treatments for many dermatological conditions.”

The Intendis portfolio that Valeant will sell in UK comprises not only Finacea® (15 % azelaic acid gel), which is the rosacea treatment most frequently prescribed by American dermatologists, but also the 30g formulation of Skinoren® Cream (20% azelaic acid cream) used in the treatment of acne. In addition the portfolio will include Scheriproct®, a treatment for haemorrhoids, available as an ointment (30g) or a pack of 12 suppositories, as well as Ultrabase®, a moisturising cream available in a 50g tube or a 500g pump dispenser.
