Mayor of Berlin acknowledges the significance of Intendis for the city

- Press Release -

Berlin, May 05, 2006

  • Successful first year for the new international pharmaceutical company
  • Dedicated to a single area of expertise – and thus unique in the German pharmaceutical industry

Approximately one year after its incorporation pharmaceutical company Intendis GmbH presented itself at its headquarters in the berlinbiotechpark during the 1st Intendis ”Zukunftsforum Dermatologie“ (Forum on the Future of Dermatology). Also present was Klaus Wowereit, Mayor of Berlin. The wholly owned Schering subsidiary is entirely dedicated to one area of expertise – dermatology. That makes Intendis the only German pharmaceutical company pursuing this type of business model. During its first business year in 2005 Intendis achieved a turnover of 223 million Euros. These results reflect a growth of 11 percent in the first 12 months of the company’s existence (compared with the same period 2004, when Intendis was still Schering’s Dermatology Division). Meanwhile Intendis has 13 subsidiaries and is represented in all major markets around the globe. The number of staff has grown to 800, an increase of 30 percent compared to last year.

Professor Wolfgang Kehr, CEO, delivered a positive summary in front of a keen audience with representatives from the fields of politics, business and the health sector: "The outstanding dynamics of Intendis with double-digit growth provide us with an excellent starting position for the further strategic development of our company.“

Klaus Wowereit, Mayor of Berlin, emphasized the important role international companies like Intendis play for Berlin as a location for science and business. ”We need closer cooperation between clinics and the private sector. Intendis is an important example in case.”

”The medical and economic dimensions of skin diseases are often overlooked, although they are amongst the four most widespread chronic diseases around the world", said Professor Wolfram Sterry, Director of the Clinic for Dermatology, Venerology and Allergology at the Charité Berlin, during his speech at the Intendis forum.

”When companies such as Intendis decide to dedicate themselves exclusively to this area of medicine, their decision signals a positive departure for the field of dermatology”, said Sterry, one of the world’s leading dermatologists, in appreciation of Intendis’ business activities.

Intendis is a fully integrated pharmaceutical company – dedicated to dermatology. Intendis is focused on the development, manufacturing and marketing of high quality, innovative topical and systemic therapies, targeted to treat skin disorders. The current product portfolio comprises treatments of eczema disorders including atopic dermatitis, as well as psoriasis, acne, rosacea and fungal skin infections (mycoses). Intendis markets a number of successful brands such as Advantan® and Nerisona® for the treatment of eczema, Travocort® (dermatomycoses), Skinoren® (acne), Finacea® (rosacea) and Psorcutan® and Psorcutan® Beta (psoriasis). The company’s objective is to become a leading partner in the field of dermatology. Intendis GmbH is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Schering AG, Germany.
